My First Blog Thought of the Week (TotW)
Sometimes the light's all shinin' on me;'
Other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurres to me
What a long, strange trip it's been.
- Truckin' by the Grateful Dead
I can not claim to be much of a Dead Head, but I do happen to really like some of their songs, particularly "Truckin'" and "Touch of Grey". (I already know what true Dead Heads think of me saying that these are my two favorite Grateful Dead songs... and I do not care because I like'em!)
I picked this quote this week because 1) it is funny to me to make a retrospective quote my first blogged TotW and 2) there are some elements of the "White Party" from this past weekend that can be drawn. For those not able to attend, my roommate and I (okay... mostly my roommate) hosted a "White Party" this weekend. This was a chance to have a large number of our friends over and have everyone dressed in white. No need to recount all the craziness that ensued, but suffice it to say from setting up all of Saturday to going to bed early Sunday morning... it was a long strange trip.
Yet Another Blog!
For last six months or so I have been posting "thoughts of the week" on my whiteboard at work. Typically these thoughts are quotes from something I had recently read or someone who I had recently been thinking about. In other instances I picked a quote simply by typing in a word (such as "wisdom") and the word "quote" into a search engine and finding a quote that looked interesting.
Passer-bys my office have often stopped to remark on the quote or ask me about why I picked it. This has led to interesting discussions and debate about why the quote is right or wrong or about why the heck I picked it. Some people say they try to guess my mood based on the quote.
While I hope people continue to ask me at work, I decided to put these thoughts of the week in a blog. This way I can share with my friends outside of work and maybe even spark some interesting responses. This also enables me the chance to talk about why I picked the quote and what I was thinking when I picked it.
